This ones goes out to all of your ferroequinologist out there. Okay, some of you prefer a less flamboyant name: train enthusiasts. Whether you’re a diehard rail-fan or someone who just wants to play a game about trains, developer Combine Games has got you covered. There is a new Kickstarter that is being called the spiritual successor to the much loved Railroad Tycoon franchise: Rails & Riches (PC). In fact the lead designer on the game, Franz Felsl, worked on Railroad Tycoon 2 and 3.
Rails & Riches is aiming to go beyond what Railroad Tycoon was capable of, and Felsl says he always felt like the games were unfinished. Players will have two way of playing; they can either follow a campaign and work through scenarios to conquer The West, or they can play in “Sandbox,” to build to their heart’s content. The best part of Rails & Riches is the fact that the development team chose to use Kickstarter, instead of looking for corporate backing. This way they can release the game fans want and not some corporate guy in a suite—unless that describes you and you want to back it, then that’s cool. Players will also be able to contribute their own content to the game, which means there will never be an end to the building.
