Traditional Gaming Consoles to Level Up According to Nvidia

It's been said that the Xbox 720 and PS4 will be the last of its kind for traditional home gaming consoles according to Nvidia’s cloud gaming boss, Phil Eisler. In a recent interview, he stated that with technological improvements and lower server costs, streaming games will become the new norm and take over as the predominant way in which people are choosing to play their games.

What about the problem of network latency, that by many is regarded as the biggest issue with cloud gaming? Well, the whiz kids over at the GeForce grid are working hard to decrease the issue, and eventually surpass traditional console hardware. Eisler himself remarked that if they can work well with smart TV manufacturers, it will be possible to have "a cloud rendered experience that has lower latency than the current consoles plus standard television experience" very shortly. Whether this impressive claim can live up to it’s predictions or not will be revealed in the near future, no doubt. For now though, we'll have to be patient as it isn’t likely that we will see this become a reality in the next few months.

As for the future of traditional consoles, even if the Xbox 720 and PS4 are the last of their kind, they will be around to shape the future of gaming for many years. I still have my PS1 and SNES hooked up to my television, so it is unlikely that cloud gaming will have a huge impact on the future of the traditional console.
